The Regent Hotel opened in 1819 and was one of the largest hotels in Europe. It is said to have had 100 bedrooms, but only one bathroom!

It was named by the Prince Regent (who later became King George IV). Many famous people stayed there, including Queen Victoria in 1830 when she was an 11 year old princess.
