Bath Place opened as a national school in 1859. The school opened in November with a tea party for 450 children. The new school had a classroom for boys, a classroom for girls and a classroom for infants.
It had two playgrounds and a small house at each end of the building. Who do you think the houses might have been for? They were where the head teachers of the girls and boys lived.
