Take the children into a large space. Talk to the children about the way different toys move and encourage the children to create a movement for several toys e.g. clockwork toy, doll, teddy, and puppet.

When the children are confident with the movements ask them to imagine they are one of the toys standing very still at night in a toyshop. Explain to the children that they are going to come to life as the music plays and move quietly around the room as the toy they have chosen. Play the children music from the Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker suite.
