About John Florio
Florio was the son
of a Protestant refugee
from Catholic Italy,
and a true scholar.
Attending Oxford University,
he later wrote and edited books on his mother tongue.
They included two grammars - First Fruites (1578)
and Second
Fruites (1591).
Florio certainly mastered
the Worlde of Wordes - and in turn this become
the title for his own English-Italian dictionary in 1598.
