The first days of Shakespeare's life

William Shakespeare himself was baptised at his local church on 26 April 1564. This image suggests how the occasion might have looked.

He was the third child, and first son, of his parents John and Mary. The event is recorded in Stratford's Parish Register, which is housed at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Record Office. [click here to zoom out]
