Playwright's pledge to Stratfordian Sturley

5 November 1598

Abraham Sturley's debt woes may be
about to ease - with the help of a
whopping £30 loan from William
Shakespeare.

Last month we revealed that Richard
Quiney had been in London, acting on his
behalf.

Now Sturley believes that Mr. Shakespeare is willing to play along.
In this recent letter to Quiney, he
writes of his interest that "our
countriman Mr. Wm. Shakespeare
would procure us money which I will
like of as I shall heare when and
wheare and howe."

Meanwhile, Quiney's father has
advised his son to invest in some knit
hose for sale in Evesham, believing
it can be sold at a profit later on.
