A survey was today completed
giving details of local townsmen with private supplies of corn
and malt.
Only five years on from the Plague,
many in England are now close to starving. With expensive grain
in short supply, the government has ordered a thorough audit of
local stores.
Many accuse private individuals
of exploiting people's desperation. They are leaking small amounts
of grain onto the market at an inflated price, say critics.
