Addenbrooke faces arrest over debt misery

17 August 1608. Local gentleman John Addenbrooke owes £6 to William Shakespeare, the bard alleged today.

Addenbrooke will appear at the local Court of Record to answer allegations brought against him by the playwright, who is also demanding 24s. in damages.

Stratford's High Bailiff has already issued the arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, Shakespeare's acting company The King's Men have begun performing his hit plays at Blackfriars - they include Othello, King Lear, Macbeth and Antony and Cleopatra.
