Nicholas Eiffler

10 % poo, 10 % horse hair, 80 % clay

Wattle and daub

Daub was made up of a mixture of things, often 80% clay, 10% straw or horse hair and 10% cow or horse muck (to help it all stick together)

The daub was pressed on by hand to build up a layer. This was then covered with a lime plaster. The lime plaster was often coloured.

Later on in Tudor times, people used bricks as an infill, but these were very expensive.
