Belemnites

Belemnites

These belemnites were found in a
'battlefield' at a Fenny Compton railway cutting.

Despite looking lethal, these 'belemnite bullets' are only as deadly as a common squid.

Their pointed shells were not for hiding in - they were actually covered in the soft muscle of a squid-like body.

Today's geologists find these bullets buried in such big numbers that they call their finds 'belemnite battlefields!'
