This picture shows an ammonite
found at Southam Cement Works.

Ammonites are gone forever but
we know a lot about their lives.
Their shells tell us that they came
in many shapes and sizes. The animal that lived in the shell was
something like an octopus or squid.
Some carried cumbersome coiled shells
with ornate ribs. Some were streamlined for champion swimming
speeds.
Some ammonites developed unusual
straight, pointed or uncoiled shells.
