Schooldays 1822-1835 For now Mary Ann's mind lay on homelier things. School began just across the lane. There, a neighbour called Mrs Moore taught simple maths and spelling to young children. Two boarding schools followed - and Mary Ann would always remember the cold nights and nightmares that she suffered there. But her talents shone. |
