Growing up at Griff 1819-
Mary Ann saw them build coal
mines and cottages amongst the hedgerows. She heard the rattling
of weavers' looms and encountered colliers as they walked to the
coal pits. This all happened in the very fields where she played
with her brother Isaac.
Her young mind soaked up
every scene. Nobody could have foreseen that these memories would
be the makings of a great career.
