go to the bit where Mary Ann...
grows up goes to school moves to Coventry moves to London changes her name falls in love writes stories

In the 1820s, when Mary Ann was young,
poor girls might have worked in coal mines
just to help their families survive.

It was dirty and dangerous work,
but Mary Ann's dad had enough money
to make sure that she didn't have to do that.

Go back to choose another job or
go forward to find out what Mary Ann did instead...

A Coal Miner?
