This is how the Times correspondent reported the fire:

"The fire was discovered about half past one o'clock on Sunday morning by the steward-room boy Joseph Powers, and the footmen William Everton and William Gregory ... the buildings were on fire, and volumes of smoke were rolling out of Lady Warwick's apartments, which were on the second floor overlooking the River Avon."
